updated: Linux (debian sid/unstable) on Maxdata Pro 710X   current configuration config for 2.4.21(old) working devices:     Sound   USB   WLAN   XF86 with hardware acceleration   IrDA   PCMCIA   ACPI not tested yet:     firewire (kernel module loads fine, not tested with IEEE1394-devices yet) others:     on-board modem (didn't try to make it work)   5 special buttons above keyboard (who needs them anyway)   ingredients     vanilla 2.4.23 kernel kernel patches  used     MPPE_MPPC (needed for PPTP VPNs)   loop-jari (loop-device crypto support)   ACPI   grsecurity   software used     Debian unstable (sid)   Xfree86 4.2.x (from debian unstable) with driver for synaptics touchpad   acpid, irda-common, irda-tools, ... packages from debian unstable; patched pppd (necessary to work with mppe) see this site for useful installation instructions regarding PPTP with debian files     kernel-config file (using patches specified above)   XF86-config-File (uses 1400x1050 res)   comments     just updated to 2.4.23. i left out swsuspend this time, because it doesn't really make sense together with cryptoloop-devices (there is no password-check after re-enabling from suspend). grsec is mainly included because of the network-features, other proc-restrictions are deactivated because of X and some other apps. with the crypto-patches applied, it's possible to use a crypto-filesystem through the loopback-interface - this is an important feature, especially on a notebook.
